An illustrated edition of Aristophanes' provocative ancient Greek comedy, accompanied by the extraordinary drawings of British artist Aubrey Beardsley. Originally created in 1896, Beardsley's illustrations combine Art Nouveau elegance with explicit erotic imagery, transforming the classical satire into a striking work of decadent art.
The play follows a group of women who organize a sex strike to persuade their husbands to end the Peloponnesian War. A fascinating intersection of literature, feminism, eroticism, and fin-de-siècle illustration.
